What is a Toy Library?

The Toy Library Federation of NZ motto is ‘Play is the way”.

A Toy Library is a great way to access fantastic toys at little or not cost. At the Waikouaiti-Palmerston Toy Library for a small annual fee, you can hire our toys for free! Yes, you are not reading that incorrectly! We value the importance of learning through play for our children. The Toy Library wants to connect families with toys and resources with families, so all our children are directly advantaged. Toys are an important way of helping your child to develop different skills, encouraging their imagination and helping them learn about sound, touch and how things work. In East Otago reuse and recycling is a big drive. By using the Toy Library, you will be helping the community minimise toys and plastic that will end up at our local landfill. Would you like to directly help your local Toy Library? We welcome with open arms anyone in the community with or without children who would like to join our committee or volunteer team to help us with this exciting project!

I''m a Wellington refugee who moved to Karitane in mid-2017 with my husband and young daughter. I volunteered at our former Toy Library and stepped up to becoming a member of the committee here, primarily to meet people.
